Well, what a day! Great weather, great company, great city but a rather disappointing end to it all. I opted to not take a good look at the map of the 100 mile course and failed to make the necessary turn-off sending me on the appropriate extension instead of back to the start. Soooooo....my ride sadly ended at about 50 miles. The most disappointing part was that I missed the rural part of the ride with all the great hills. BUT, the ride itself was phenomenal. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would ride a bike through NYC! I rode through the Lincoln Tunnel and over the George Washington Bridge, through Manhattan and New Jersey, and down Riverside Parkway dodging traffic all the way to the end (the last 5 miles or so). For the most part, traffic was either diverted away from our route or we were in areas with wide shoulders. The last stretch was exhilerating trying to be "just a car on the road". Surprisingly, cars are very aware of cyclists in the city, but they obviously expect you to be very aware and street smart, as well. All in all it was a great day and a ride that I hope to do again next year. Thanks to all who donated on my behalf for MS research!
Just a little blog to keep people posted on what I'm up to and a way for me to keep track of my time in NY.
